چکیده

Background: Surgical treatment of chest wall deformities is done with costal cartilage resection in selected patients adolescence. In this study, we evaluated the effect resections on lung volume by using computed tomography stereologically. Methods: sixteen 4-weeks-old New Zealand rabbits were employed. Young subjects preferred to evaluate operation growth process. order avoid postoperative complications, only 2 was performed. The surgical group resected right 4 and 5 cartilages (n = 8). that not operated accepted as control (n=8). followed. Computed thorax (CTT) scans all animals performed preoperatively at 4th week. Estimation pre- volumes Cavalieri principle. Results: followed up during growth, bilateral increased (15.75% 20.62% respectively left lungs). group, both side opposite decreased after (20.09% 1.07% Conclusions: Even though number limited, total resection. deformities, should be considered last option children.

Mechanical Characterization of Costal Cartilage

Rib fractures are a common morbidity following automotive crashes. While the rib bones are wellcharacterized, and articular cartilage from joints such as the knee and shoulder has been extensively mechanically characterized, almost no mechanical examination has been performed of the rib-cage costal cartilage. Costal cartilage is a hyaline cartilage, like articular cartilage, but it differs from...

Volumetric evaluation of the lung expansion following resection: a stereological study.

OBJECTIVE Following lung resection, the thoracic cavity may be filled partially or completely by the remaining pulmonary tissue. To our knowledge, no study has yet evaluated this volumetric change in thoracic content using high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scans. We aimed to evaluate the volume changes of the lungs using HRCT scans during the preoperative and postoperative periods. M...

Is the repair of articular cartilage lesion by costal chondrocyte transplantation donor age-dependent? An experimental study in rabbits.

The repair of chondral injuries is a very important problem and a subject of many experimental and clinical studies. Different techniques to induce articular cartilage repair are under investigation. In the present study, we have investigated whether the repair of articular cartilage folowing costal chondrocyte transplantation is donor age-dependent. Transplantation of costal chondrocytes from ...

Outcomes following rhinoplasty using autologous costal cartilage.

OBJECTIVE To describe the aesthetic and clinical outcomes following rhinoplasty using autologous costal cartilage, which is considered the best graft material for rhinoplasty requiring major reconstruction. Few studies have examined outcomes following rhinoplasty using autologous costal cartilage. METHODS A retrospective review of the data from 108 patients who underwent rhinoplasty using aut...
